The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team faced a challenging match against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, resulting in a 21-14 defeat. The dual took place at the McPhee Center on Wednesday, as part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Blugolds, ranked third in Division III, managed to secure victories in four matches but fell short against their second-ranked opponents.

Izzy Balsiger from Chippewa Falls initiated the dual with a win at 125 pounds. Ranked sixth nationally, Balsiger defeated eighth-ranked Quintin Wolbert with a 12-7 decision. Travis Moelter followed with an overtime victory at 133 pounds, giving the Blugolds an early lead of 6-0.

The Eagles responded by winning at 141 pounds. However, Zach Sato reclaimed momentum for Eau Claire with a major decision victory at 149 pounds, bringing the score to 10-4. UW-La Crosse then secured consecutive wins at 157 and 165 pounds to take an 11-10 lead.

Jared Stricker provided another highlight for Eau Claire by defeating Eddie Simes with an 11-0 major decision at 174 pounds. This win temporarily put the Blugolds ahead once more. Despite this effort, UW-La Crosse won the final three matches to seal their victory.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds will participate in the Reno Tournament of Champions on December 22 in Reno, Nevada. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Pacific time.
