The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team faced a challenging Sunday at Carson Park, where they lost both games of a doubleheader against UW-Oshkosh. Despite a strong performance, the Blugolds were defeated 2-0 in 12 innings in the first game and 14-2 in the second.
Nicholas Meuser delivered one of the standout performances of his career to maintain the Blugolds’ competitiveness in the first game. The sophomore right-hander pitched nine scoreless innings, striking out five, marking the first nine-inning start by a Blugold pitcher since 2023. However, UW-Oshkosh's pitching was just as formidable, keeping the Blugolds scoreless and extending the game into extra innings. Ultimately, the Titans secured victory in the 12th inning with an RBI double, followed by an RBI triple.
Standout for the Blugolds was Drew Salyers, who went 3-for-6 in the opener, marking his 10th multi-hit game this season.
In the second game, UW-Oshkosh established a decisive lead with four runs in the third inning, supported by a pair of home runs. Additional runs in the sixth and seventh innings extended their advantage. The Blugolds responded in the seventh with RBI singles from Connor Weik and Cade Mueller, but could not close the deficit. UW-Oshkosh then scored seven more runs in the subsequent innings.
Austin Curti led the Blugolds in Game 2 with two hits. Draza Dupor, contributing six innings and four strikeouts on the mound, was charged with the loss.
Next, the Blugolds will continue their WIAC matches with a four-game series against UW-La Crosse on April 18-19. The doubleheader on April 18 starts at 1 p.m.
