UW-Eau Claire men’s soccer shuts out UW-Superior in nonconference matchup

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team, ranked No. 7 nationally, earned a 4-0 win over No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior on Thursday at SCCU Stadium in Superior, Wis. The Blugolds scored twice in each half and did not allow a goal.

Noah Malcook opened the scoring for UW-Eau Claire in the 26th minute. Five minutes later, Caden Vande Hey made it 2-0. Goalkeeper Charlie Mroz contributed with an early save that helped keep Superior off the scoreboard during the first half.

After halftime, Mroz recorded another important save in the 64th minute as Eau Claire continued to prevent Superior from scoring. Tavin Ferner added a third goal for the Blugolds in the 81st minute. The team scored again two minutes later to complete their four-goal tally.

Malcook finished with one goal from four shots, three of which were on target. Vande Hey converted his only shot into a goal, while Ferner also scored from his single attempt. Mroz made three saves across 90 minutes to secure the shutout.

With this result, UW-Eau Claire improved its season record to 2-0-0. UW-Superior dropped to 0-2-0.

UW-Eau Claire will play its next match against Edgewood College on September 7 at Reddan Park in Madison, Wis., with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
