Jake Carmichael, a senior from Tomah, Wisconsin, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week. He is majoring in Business Entrepreneurship and appreciates the proximity of the campus to his hometown. "I loved the campus and it is very close to my hometown. I wanted a place that would give me the opportunity to see my family on a regular basis," he said.

Carmichael shared insights into balancing academics and athletics: "Live in the present, focus only on what you can control, and try to appreciate the small things in life." Reflecting on his athletic career at UW-Eau Claire, he expressed pride in being considered for a coaching role after his playing days: "Being asked by one of our coaches if I would like to coach here when my playing career is over."

He revealed his pre-competition snack preference as "pedialyte and a rice krispy treat" and post-competition choice as "any kind of pasta." Carmichael also mentioned a unique talent: "I can sing the whole song 'We Are The World' (the original one)."

When asked about his dream job, he stated, "Work for the Minnesota Vikings in any way." If given a chance to travel anywhere, he would choose "Carmichael (village in Scotland)." His choice of professional athlete or celebrity to spend a day with is Aaron Donald: "He revolutionized the defensive tackle position and is arguably the greatest defensive player of all time."

Carmichael advised current and incoming Blugold student-athletes: "Enjoy your time. It goes fast. Spend as much time with your teammates as you can. You will never forget the memories you make with them."

Head Football Coach Rob Erickson praised Carmichael's leadership qualities: "Jake is a leader on our team by the way he connects with all personalities, brings the best out of others and loves being a Blugold. The players and coaches that meet Jake and spend time with him find a way to have a better day. He is a strong player on our team, but the position he plays doesn't allow him to be very well known by the general fan; however, he is leader on our team and known by everyone. That is difficult to do, but he makes it look easy because he has a natural gift."
