UW-Eau Claire volleyball secures two sweeps at Transy Invite

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, this weekend to participate in the Transy Invite hosted by Transylvania University. The Blugolds faced Mount St. Joseph and Mount Union from Ohio after strong storms altered their original schedule. UWEC secured two 3-0 victories on Saturday.

In the first game against Mount St. Joseph, the Blugolds overcame an early deficit with a series of four-point runs to win the first set 25-19. They maintained a .344 hitting rate throughout the match. Bailey Leeke and Abby Stanwood led the offensive effort with a combined 25 kills on 56 attempts. Kaitlyn Erickson and Mya Cinnamo contributed defensively with 19 combined digs.

Elli Amjadi added three service aces, marking a season high for her. The team committed only three reception errors out of 52 attempts during their victory.

In the second game against Mount Union, UW-Eau Claire continued their strong performance with a .431 hitting percentage and 53 kills overall. Leeke and Stanwood once again spearheaded the offense with 29 combined kills, while Cinnamo added eight more.

Ella Kiebel was instrumental in setting up attacks, recording a season-high 42 assists in this match and bringing her career total to 590 assists after contributing another 32 helpers earlier in the day.

Defensively, Sophia Brown and Makina Larson each tallied solo blocks as Eau Claire recorded six total blocks during the contest.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds (11-4-0, WIAC 1-1) will resume Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, October 4th when they travel to UW-Whitewater for a match at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena scheduled for 7 p.m.
