UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis opens season with sixth-place finish at Warhawk Invitational

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team started their 2025-26 season at the Warhawk Invitational in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The Blugolds earned five wins and finished sixth out of eight teams, collecting 20 points. Grinnell College led the tournament with 40 points.

Aubrey Wittwer achieved the highest result for UW-Eau Claire, finishing second in the No. 3 singles bracket. Wittwer won her opening match against Carthage's Bella Rizzo 7-5, 6-1 and then defeated UW-La Crosse's Izzy Brinkman 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. In the finals, she faced Grinnell's Marta Gonzalez and lost 6-2, 6-4 to secure runner-up.

In doubles play, Kiera Schmid and Stella Platt made their debuts for the Blugolds at No. 2 doubles with a first-round win over Carthage (6-4). They lost in the semifinals (0-6) and finished fourth after a close third-place match (2-6). At No. 3 doubles, Anna Paula Ricaurte and Morgan Briggman claimed a victory in the consolation semifinals (7-5), earning fifth place overall.

The Blugolds will begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on September 5 at the John & Fay Menard Tennis Center against UW-River Falls. Matches are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
