The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team, ranked 10th nationally, faced St. Olaf on the road in Northfield, Minnesota, on Wednesday. Despite scoring the first goal within the opening 23 minutes, UWEC conceded three goals in the second half and suffered their first loss of the season with a final score of 4-2.
Noah Malcook initiated scoring for UWEC in the 22nd minute by driving into the box and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner. Carter Thiesfeld assisted on Malcook's first goal of the season.
St. Olaf responded with two penalty kick goals in quick succession during the 44th and 47th minutes, giving UWEC their first deficit of the match. The Oles added another goal in the 81st minute.
Owen Williams scored Eau Claire's second goal off a cross from outside and a header to the far post.
The Blugolds (6-1-2) will return home to Eau Claire for a match against Augsburg University at Simpson Field on Saturday, September 28th, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
