Fred Moede, a senior from Savage, Minnesota, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week, an honor presented by BSN Sports/Nike.

Moede is majoring in Business Finance. When asked why he chose UW-Eau Claire, he said, "I chose Eau Claire because I really like the campus layout. After touring the campus, it just felt like the right fit for me."

Balancing his responsibilities as a student-athlete, Moede shared his approach: "I do it by making sure I get my homework done ahead of schedule. Therefore, I'm not scrambling on getting any work done at the last minute."

Moede's favorite pre/post-competition snack is peanut butter and jelly uncrustables. He aspires to work as General Manager for the Minnesota Vikings and would choose Italy as his travel destination if given the chance. His preferred professional athlete to spend a day with is Lewis Hamilton.

For current or incoming Blugold student-athletes, Moede advises: "Don't be afraid to use the resources that are available to you."

Head Men's Golf Coach Darrin Skinner spoke highly of Moede: "Fred loves the team. He works hard at his sport and his commitment to the team. Understands the difficulties and responsibilities of being a senior that underclassmen look up to. He demonstrates his persistence and drive on a daily basis. He is kind to his teammates, willing to change for the good of the team and loves to compete."

Teammate Ben Pausha described Moede as "charismatic," adding: "He's always there for you. He's the type of guy you can talk about anything to. He's also inspiring to others because he is such a good guy. You always want him to be a part of the group you're with. Fred's a great teammate because of all the things I just mentioned. To add to that, he's a dedicated athlete who is persistent. He's always wanting to get better and help lift others around him. He's got the perfect balance of taking golf seriously but having fun at the same time while competing."
