The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team faced a challenging match against UW-Stevens Point, resulting in a 72-50 defeat during the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest on Saturday. The game was held at Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

In the first half, the Blugolds kept pace with the Pointers, who are recognized in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The initial quarter ended with UW-Eau Claire leading 13-10 after a 6-2 run. During this period, they limited UW-Stevens Point to just 19% shooting.

As the second quarter progressed, both teams exchanged leads without either gaining more than a five-point advantage. By halftime, UW-Stevens Point had established a narrow lead of 35-30.

The turning point came in the third quarter when UW-Stevens Point executed a dominant performance by outscoring UW-Eau Claire 23-4. This stretch included holding their opponents scoreless for seven minutes and initiating the half with a decisive 17-0 run. The Pointers maintained over a 20-point lead for the remainder of the game, ending with a significant victory margin.

Lauren Meudt led UW-Eau Claire with 13 points. Kyla Overskei contributed eight points while Jessilyn Ernst and Kailey Tulachka each added seven points to their team's effort.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will play at home against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, January 29th at the Sonnentag Event Center with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
