The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team achieved a second-place finish at the Blugold Invite, held on Friday afternoon at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin. Senior runner Mason Shea from River Falls, Wisconsin, claimed his first individual victory of the season with a time of 24:37.4, leading the team to a score of 57 points. The Blugolds were surpassed only by UW-La Crosse.
Shea's performance marked a new season best as he completed the race 11 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. His teammates also delivered strong performances; Trevor LaMirande finished 11th with a time of 25:13.4, and Jack Hesse-Withbroe secured 12th place at 25:16.3. Jesse Peterson came in 17th place with a time of 25:24.0, while Sam Verkerke rounded out the team's scoring by finishing in 31st place with a time of 25:44.7.
This result marks the team's best performance at the Blugold Invite since they last placed second in 2017.
The Blugolds are scheduled to compete next at the Augustana Invitational on Saturday, October 19, in Rock Island, Illinois.
