The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team triumphed over UW-Stevens Point with a decisive 23-3 victory. This Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match took place at the UWSP Turf Facility on Wednesday. The win marks the Blugolds' fifth in their last six games.
The Blugolds, now with a record of 8-5 and 5-2 in conference play, asserted their dominance early by scoring ten times in the first quarter. They never lost their lead throughout the game. They added seven more goals in the second quarter while preventing the Pointers, who now hold a 2-12 record (1-5 in conference), from scoring. By halftime, the Blugolds had secured a 17-2 advantage and continued to keep the Pointers scoreless in the final quarter.
Reegan Werner and Ellie Fisher were the top scorers for UW-Eau Claire, each achieving six points with four goals and two assists. Devon Crews contributed with four goals and an assist. Jess Stiller and Alexie Romanelli also made significant contributions with Stiller adding three goals and an assist, and Romanelli scoring three goals. Paige Kiani tallied a goal and provided three assists.
On defense, Alexandria Shea made five saves as the starting goalie, while Bella Jones added three more saves. Both goalies played half of the game. The Blugolds dominated offensively with 45 shots compared to the Pointers' 12 and completed 20 out of 23 clear attempts. They also won 21 of 29 draw controls.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds will be hosting a home game against UW-Stout for another WIAC match on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse.
