UW-Eau Claire tallies a comeback WIAC win against UW-La Crosse

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team secured a victory against UW-La Crosse with a score of 4-3 at the Winona Tennis Center. The Blugolds managed to win four of six singles matches after an initial setback in doubles, securing their triumph in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) encounter.

Initially, the Blugolds fell behind after losing two of three doubles matches, giving UW-La Crosse a 1-0 lead going into singles play. In response, the team performed strongly in singles to clinch the win. Senior player Ethan Wurtzel from Menomonie, Wisconsin, fought through a three-set match to win 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 in the No. 1 position.

Sophomore Pablo Rincón from Bogotá, Colombia, contributed with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 match, while senior Otto Schluter from Henfield, England, secured a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 3 match. Sophomore Sam Murillo from Minneapolis, Minnesota, played a crucial role by bouncing back at No. 5 singles with a comeback triumph of 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, helping to clinch the dual for the Blugolds.

The Blugolds are set to face Hamline on Saturday, April 19, with the match scheduled for 2 p.m. at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.
