The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has announced the recipients of its annual Alumni Association awards. The awards recognize individuals for their remarkable contributions and ongoing commitment to the university and the broader community.
Steven Robbins, a former student who became a leading figure in both the ski industry and real estate, will receive the Honorary Alumnus Award. Robbins' involvement with UW-Eau Claire spans decades, and he has consistently supported the university's initiatives. "In reality, minus a few busy years here and there, UWEC has remained a huge part of my life since the day I moved into Towers Hall in 1973," Robbins reflects.
The Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award will be presented to John Kinville, a high school teacher, author, and founder of a nonprofit organization that honors fallen soldiers. Principal Donna Goodman of Chippewa Falls High School commends Kinville: “John Kinville is not just a teacher — he is a mentor, a guide, an inspiration to everyone around him,” she states.
Also honored with the Distinguished Achievement Award is Michael LeMay, renowned for his work in cybersecurity, who began his education at UW-Eau Claire at age 15. Professor Jack Tan recalls, "Of the thousands of students I’ve worked with in computer science, Michael stands out as second to none."
Dr. Barbara Lohse, honored with the Distinguished Achievement Award, credits her time at UW-Eau Claire for her successful career in health sciences. “The quality of the teaching in biology was so strong, I felt that I had a jump-start on my grad studies,” she mentions.
John Noltner, a freelance photographer known for his project "A Peace of My Mind," will receive the Distinguished Achievement Award. The project's mission is to use art and storytelling to foster dialogue and connection. Richard Mickelson praises Noltner, saying, “He is out there every day asking questions, listening carefully, and allowing others to communicate important truths.”
Jason Plante, vice president of Market & Johnson, will also be awarded for Distinguished Achievement. He has consistently given back to the UW-Eau Claire community throughout his career. “Jason is the best personification of a Blugold,” says Kimera Way, highlighting Plante's community service and leadership.
Lastly, Milton and Pegeen Snoeyenbos will receive the Lifetime Excellence Award for their extensive support of UW-Eau Claire’s jazz program. Their donations have established enduring contributions in honor of Peg’s parents. Marcia Van Beek acknowledges, “What Milt and Peg have done for music at UW-Eau Claire is transformative.”
The recipients reflect the spirit and values of UW-Eau Claire, making significant impacts in their respective fields and communities. The university celebrates their achievements and contributions, which underscore its commitment to excellence.
