The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team claimed a 17-12 victory over UW-River Falls in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match on Wednesday at Ramer Field. This marks the Blugolds' third consecutive win, maintaining their lead throughout the game.
Jess Stiller from Evergreen, Colorado, and Paige Kiani from New Brighton, Minnesota, both sophomores, each contributed five points to the win for UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds started strong by scoring four of the first five goals and maintained their lead, closing the first quarter at 4-2.
In the second quarter, the Blugolds increased their advantage to four points twice. Stiller scored three goals swiftly within six minutes and added another just before halftime, ending the half with a 9-5 lead.
The Falcons made a comeback attempt, closing the gap to 10-9 with three and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, they were still behind 12-10 entering the final quarter. The Blugolds secured their win, scoring four of the last five goals with Kiani adding two more in the final stretch.
In goal, Senior Alexandria Shea from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, recorded eight saves, contributing to the team's win. Seniors Alexie Romanelli from Naperville, Illinois, and Junior Devon Crews from St. Louis, Missouri, each scored three points. Junior Reegan Werner from Farmington, Minnesota, stood out defensively with six caused turnovers, six draw controls, and five ground balls.
The Blugolds will return to their home field on Saturday, April 12, to host Southwestern University for another WIAC match starting at 1 p.m. at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse.
