In Normal, Illinois, Spencer Lynch emerged as the champion of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, the largest tournament in college golf, held over two days. Competing among 38 teams and 228 golfers, Lynch achieved victory with a score of 6 under par, clinching the tournament by a margin of two strokes. This win marked his first individual tournament title, an improvement from his tie for 44th place in the previous year's event.
The Blugolds, Lynch's team, finished in sixth place overall, while their second team ended in a tie for 14th. Lynch delivered an impressive performance at the Weibring Golf Club on Saturday, highlighted by a score of 67 which propelled him from a tie for third to first place. His play included six birdies and two bogeys, marking his lowest collegiate score.
Teammates contributed to the Blugolds' strong finish. Ben Pausha improved significantly, climbing 37 spots with a score of 70 to tie for 14th. Nick Amtmann tied for 18th after recording a 76, and Nick Mueller tied for 43rd at 7 over par. Owen Covey and Fred Moede both tied for 96th place, rounding out the team's top 100 finishes.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds are set to compete at the Bobby Krig Invitational from April 18-19 in Minnesota, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
