The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team achieved a remarkable feat on Saturday by setting a new program scoring record. The team secured a 27-2 victory over Augsburg at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse. This triumph surpassed the team's previous scoring record of 26 goals, a milestone they had reached in both 2022 and 2023. The recent win advances UW-Eau Claire to a 2-1 standing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
During the match, the Blugolds (5-4, 2-1) dominated by scoring the first 16 goals. Augsburg, which played with 10 players throughout the game, was outscored 11-0 in the initial quarter. The Blugolds also accomplished another record with 57 shots taken.
Eight players from the Blugolds scored three points or more, with Ellie Fisher, a sophomore from Stillwater, Minnesota, leading the way with eight points comprised of six goals and two assists. Jess Stiller, another sophomore from Evergreen, Colorado, added six points with three goals and three assists.
Paige Kiani, a sophomore from New Brighton, Minnesota, contributed three goals and two assists for a total of five points. Senior Lydia Wickersham from Milton, Wisconsin, had four points.
In another notable performance, Victoria Shea, a sophomore from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, set a new record for the program with 10 draw controls. Bella Jones from Neenah, Wisconsin, and Alexandria Shea, a senior from Pleasant Prairie, both stayed in goal for 30 minutes, each making one save.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds are scheduled to play their first road WIAC game of the season against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, April 9, with the game slated to start at 6 p.m.
