The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team concluded the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in seventh place. The tournament, held at Ironwood Golf, sees the Blugolds, ranked 19th nationally, competing against 38 other teams. Two of their golfers finished in the top seven on the individual leaderboard as they head into the final day.
The Blugolds have entered two squads in the tournament. The first group consists of Nick Amtmann, Ben Pausha, Owen Covey, Nick Mueller, and Corey Boerner, who collectively are tied for seventh with a score of 379. Meanwhile, the second squad, composed of Spencer Lynch, Fred Moede, Griffin Oberneder, Luke Taebel, and Ryan Jamieson, scored a 399 and are tied for 23rd.
Individually, Spencer Lynch and Nick Amtmann are competing for medalist honors. Lynch is tied for third place with a score of 2 under par, trailing the leader by two strokes after hitting a 70. Amtmann, with a score of 71, is 1 under par and tied for sixth, three strokes behind the leader.
Other Blugold competitors, such as Pausha and Covey, finished the day at 4 over par and tied for 50th, while Mueller and Moede completed the day at 5 over par and tied for 70th. The tournament features a total of 228 players and includes nine nationally ranked teams.
The Blugolds are set to play at Weibring Golf Club on the final day of the competition, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
