Paying for college can be a challenge, but UW-Stout is recognized for its efforts to ease financial burdens. The university offers on-campus jobs, guidance at the Financial Wellness & Literacy Center, and coordinates numerous scholarships. This year, over 1,000 students received nearly $3 million in scholarships.

Scholarships provide significant support for students like Makenna Lowell, a packaging senior from Frederick, Maryland. "With this support, I can dedicate more time to hands-on projects," she said. Lowell received a $5,000 Mark C. Garvey Scholarship from PMMI and a $500 scholarship from the Institute of Packaging Professionals Minnesota Chapter.

Other scholarship recipients include Elaina Marxen with a $5,000 Cindy Finley Memorial Scholarship; Sophia Moore with a $3,000 Tommy G. Thompson Leadership Scholarship; Meghana Maske with a $3,000 Food Safety Scholarship; and Lindsey Phillips with a $7,500 NEWH Icon of Industry Scholarship.

Marxen appreciates the broad opportunities in the packaging industry and has completed co-ops with Starbucks and Buckeye Corrugated Inc. "These co-ops made me more confident than ever that I made the right decision to attend UW-Stout," she said.

Moore has focused on public policy and law within her applied social science degree. She interned as a Housing Stability Fellow last summer and is active in campus leadership roles. "The leadership scholarship will allow me to continue my undergraduate education at a lower cost," Moore stated.

Maske's research focuses on sustainable food innovation using 3D printing technology to create plant-based fish analogs. Her work is supported by UW-Stout’s Student Research Grant and an internship at Bunge has prepared her for her future career in food safety.

Phillips enjoys creating functional spaces as an interior design student. Her NEWH Icon of Industry scholarship covers most of her senior year tuition. "This scholarship not only helps me financially but also confirms that my hard work has paid off," she said.

UW-Stout continues to support its students through various initiatives aimed at helping them achieve their academic goals while preparing them for successful careers.
