UWEC men's hockey secures back-to-back shutouts against Northland

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team secured a 5-0 victory over Northland College, completing a regular-season sweep. The game took place on Saturday at the Bay Area Civic Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. This win marked the Blugolds' second consecutive shutout, maintaining their position in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) race.

The Blugolds, with a record of 8-10-1 overall and 6-3-0 in conference play, successfully kept Northland scoreless for the second night in a row. Max Gutjahr contributed significantly to this outcome by making 17 saves during Saturday's match following his previous night's performance of 15 saves in a 2-0 shutout.

In the first period, Charlie Erickson scored just over five minutes into the game, followed by Jordan Randall who doubled the lead less than a minute later. Dayne Hoyord added to the scoreline three minutes into the second period with another goal. Tyler Herzberg then made it four with six and a half minutes remaining in that period.

Max Dronen concluded the scoring early in the third period while also providing two assists during the game. Colin Stein contributed two assists as well, and both Erickson and Hoyord had assists alongside their goals.

UW-Eau Claire outshot Northland significantly with a tally of 41 shots to Northland's 17.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire is set to begin an important two-game WIAC series against No. 13 UW-Superior on Friday, January 31st at Hobbs Ice Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
