McPhee Center Pool | UW-Eau Claire Blugolds
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team achieved a regular-season sweep over UW-Stevens Point with a 5-2 win at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds, ranked 13th, secured their third victory against the Pointers this season by scoring the first four goals.
McKenna Sandberg opened the scoring for UW-Eau Claire six minutes into the game. Keira Bolt extended the lead to 2-0 before the first period ended. Ava Bullert capitalized on a power play early in the second period, making it 3-0. Shortly after, Madisyn Krumholz scored to bring the lead to 4-0.
UW-Stevens Point managed two quick goals late in the second period but failed to score further. Lauren Ballinger sealed the win with another goal for UW-Eau Claire midway through the third period.
Seven players from UW-Eau Claire contributed assists, and Alexa Backmann made 21 saves in goal. The Blugolds outshot their opponents 44-23 and successfully defended against four power plays from the Pointers.
The Blugolds will continue their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with an upcoming game against UW-Superior on February 4 at 7 p.m.
