The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team secured a 2-0 victory against Northland College in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match on Friday at Bay Area Civic Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. The Blugolds managed to score once in each of the first two periods and maintained a strong defensive performance to defeat the Lumberjacks.
Connor Thompson initiated the scoring just over three minutes into the game with assistance from Kyle Oleksiuk and Nolan Grier. Jordan Randall increased the lead for the Blugolds early in the second period, converting an assist from Eli Reimer just 2:22 into the period.
Goalie Max Gutjahr played a crucial role by stopping all 15 shots he faced, earning his third shutout of the season and second in WIAC play. The Blugolds outshot their opponents significantly, with a total of 46 shots compared to 15 by the Lumberjacks.
The series is set to continue on Saturday, January 25, at Bay Area Civic Center with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
