The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team secured a decisive victory against UW-Stout, with a final score of 81-53, in their first War on I-94 rivalry game at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blugolds' defense was instrumental in the win, forcing the Blue Devils into 22 turnovers. Carter Huschka, a senior from Farmington, Minnesota, delivered an impressive performance with near triple-double statistics.

The Blugolds, now holding an 11-6 record overall and 3-3 in conference play, demonstrated efficiency on both ends of the court. They shot 48% offensively and recorded 17 steals defensively. This number marks their highest steal count since November 22, 2008.

Huschka led UW-Eau Claire with a career-high of 30 points while also contributing nine rebounds and seven steals. The match remained competitive for much of the first half until UW-Eau Claire pulled ahead in the last three minutes to secure a halftime lead of 36-28 after a scoring run.

In the second half, UW-Eau Claire widened their lead with an initial eight-point streak while maintaining pressure on UW-Stout (7-10 overall and 3-3 in conference), who struggled to recover. The Blugolds extended their advantage to as much as 29 points through consistent shooting and defensive efforts.

Andre Renta achieved his personal best for the Blugolds by scoring 23 points along with eight assists. Drew Maloney added to the team's tally with twelve points and four rebounds.

UW-Eau Claire's defense limited UW-Stout to a shooting percentage of just 37%, including only making shots from beyond the arc at a rate of 23%.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire aims for another win when they face No.17 ranked UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, January 25th at home in Sonnentag Event Center. The game will feature Youth Night and Junior Blugolds Night events starting at tip-off scheduled for five p.m.
