Kelsey Donovan, a senior from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week. Donovan is majoring in Rehabilitation Science with minors in Spanish and Psychology.

Reflecting on her choice to attend UW-Eau Claire during the pandemic, Donovan said, "Choosing a university to attend in the midst of a pandemic was not an easy thing to do...I'm happy to say now that my gut feeling was right and I've done more personal and professional growth than I ever thought possible in my time here."

Donovan's involvement on campus includes membership in the National Collegiate Hispanic Honors Society - Sigma Delta Pi, participation in the honors program, and work with the Community Fitness Program. She also held a research position focusing on curriculum development for introductory level Spanish courses and assisted in public health research titled "Mind on Water."

Balancing academics and athletics has been challenging but rewarding for Donovan. She explained, "Being a student-athlete is a careful dance that took some time to perfect." Her proactive approach helps her manage both responsibilities effectively.

One highlight of Donovan's athletic career is her current floor routine. "I am most proud of the floor routine I am competing this season," she said.

Her pre-competition meal often includes "a sandwich from Jimmy John's," while after home meets she enjoys dining at Azul Tequila Bar & Grill.

In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits, Donovan shared some personal interests. She can solve a Rubik's cube and do a bird call. Her dream job is to become a pediatric physical therapist because she looks forward to connecting with children.

When asked about travel aspirations, Donovan expressed interest in visiting Sardinia, Italy. She also mentioned Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman as someone she'd like to spend a day with.

Donovan offers advice for fellow Blugold student-athletes: "Remember that the success of a team happens when the cohesion and connectedness is undoubtedly visible."

Harriet Toth from Women's Gymnastics described Donovan as "persistent," highlighting her dedication across various aspects of life. Jessie DeZiel, Head Women's Gymnastics Coach, praised her leadership and positivity within the team.
