The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team participated in the North Country Invite hosted by St. John's University in Minnesota on Sunday. Ryan Goddard, a junior from Oswego, Illinois, achieved his first individual tournament title by securing first place in the Silver Division at 133 pounds.
In the round-robin format, Goddard clinched the title with a single victory. He defeated Erick Solano from St. John's by pinning him in 6:09 during the second round. A double forfeit in the third round ensured his first-place finish.
Several other Blugolds wrestlers earned second-place finishes in their respective weight classes within the Gold Division. Travis Moelter competed at 133 pounds, Colton Sund at 157 pounds, Brady Brewick at 165 pounds, Tristan Drier at 174 pounds, and Zak McPhee at 184 pounds.
Additionally, multiple Blugolds secured third-place positions in their weight categories. Ty Fink competed at 149 pounds in the Gold Division, Jan Hernandez-Soto at 165 Gold, Brandon Meister at 174 Gold, and Tiago Bertoldo Zwicky in the Silver Division at 133 pounds.
The tournament did not keep team scores.
The Blugolds are scheduled to compete next on January 31 and February 1 at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational in Wheaton, Illinois. Matches will begin each day at 11 a.m.
