UW-Eau Claire women's hockey defeats Aurora University with strong start

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team secured a decisive 7-2 victory over Aurora University at Hobbs Ice Arena on Sunday. The Blugolds, ranked 12th, dominated the game by scoring four goals in the first period.

Ashley Wagenbach initiated the scoring for UW-Eau Claire six minutes into the game. Quinn Hartmetz quickly followed with another goal less than two minutes later. Ava Johansson and Maddie Hulter added to the lead, making it 4-0 by the end of the first period.

In the second period, Madisyn Krumholz scored early, and Johansson netted her second goal shortly after, extending their lead to 6-0. Aurora managed to score twice before Ava Bullert sealed UW-Eau Claire's win with a power play goal late in the period.

Neither team scored in the final period. Hartmetz contributed significantly with two assists alongside her goal. Eight Blugolds recorded at least one assist during the match.

Kaia Hollingsworth made 14 saves for UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds are set to face UW-Stevens Point next Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena for a WIAC matchup at 2 p.m., coinciding with Alumni Day celebrations.
