The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team secured a significant victory in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) on Saturday. The Blugolds hosted UW-Stevens Point at Hobbs Ice Arena, where six different players scored to achieve their fifth WIAC win of the season.
UW-Eau Claire, with a record of 12-6-0, took an early lead against the Pointers (8-10-1). Quinn Hartmetz scored the opening goal before the first period ended. In the second period, Lauren Ballinger and Ava Johansson quickly extended the lead to 3-0.
Adrienne Hansen added another goal just before the second intermission, with Madisyn Krumholz assisting. The third period saw goals from Kara Burke and Madisyn Krumholz, sealing a 6-0 victory for Eau Claire.
Teagan Swanson made eight saves to earn her first career shutout for UW-Eau Claire. Despite power play opportunities for both teams, neither side managed to score with an advantage.
The Blugolds will next face Aurora University in a nonconference match on Sunday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
