Blugolds dominate Warhawks with record-equalling three-point shooting

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team secured a decisive 99-69 victory over UW-Whitewater on Saturday in Whitewater. The Blugolds' strong performance in the first half, where they scored 61 points, was pivotal to their success. This win marks a significant achievement in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

During the first half, the Blugolds (10-6, 2-3) scored 30 points in the last nine minutes and outscored the Warhawks by 30-18 in that period. A notable moment was a 19-5 run that spanned four and a half minutes. The team achieved an impressive shooting percentage of 75% from the field.

Despite efforts, UW-Whitewater (8-8, 2-3) could not recover after halftime. The Blugolds maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, extending it to as much as 39 points at one stage. They tied a program record with 17 successful three-pointers, matching their earlier season performance. Their accuracy from beyond the arc stood at 61%.

Michael Casper and Carter Huschka both contributed significantly with 21 points each for UW-Eau Claire. Huschka also added six assists to his performance. Andre Renta and Gunnar Tebon each scored 17 points, with Renta also providing six assists.

In terms of rebounds, the Blugolds outperformed the Warhawks with a count of 34 to 26.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire is set to host UW-Stout on Wednesday, January 22 at the Sonnentag Event Center with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
