Blugolds secure sixth straight dual win against UW-Stevens Point

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team achieved its sixth consecutive dual victory by defeating UW-Stevens Point 34-11 on Thursday at Berg Gym. The Blugolds, ranked fifth, secured six bonus-point victories in this Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match against the Pointers.

The Blugolds (12-1, 3-1) dominated from the start, winning the first five matches of the dual. Each match, including a forfeit at 149 pounds, resulted in bonus points for UW-Eau Claire. Izzy Balsiger initiated the dual with a 19-4 technical fall at 125 pounds. Calvin Singewald followed with a pin at 133 pounds, and Jayden Sheppard added a major decision at 141 pounds. After a forfeit by the Pointers at 149 pounds, Landon Church secured another pin at 157 pounds.

UW-Stevens Point (7-5, 2-2) scored their first win at 165 pounds. However, UW-Eau Claire responded with a victory from Jared Stricker at 174 pounds. He defeated Carson Trotzer by an 11-1 major decision. The Pointers managed wins at both 184 and 197 pounds before Sloan Welch concluded the dual with a victory by a 9-2 decision at 285 pounds.

This win marks the Blugolds' sixth consecutive triumph over UW-Stevens Point.

Next up for the Blugolds is competition against NCAA Division II teams at the Southwest Minnesota State Duals on Saturday, January 18. They will face Fort Hays State, Upper Iowa, Minot State, and Southwest Minnesota State starting at noon.
