The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team faced a setback in their series finale against the Milwaukee School of Engineering, losing 6-3 on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. This defeat followed a shutout loss on Friday night, as the Blugolds struggled to keep up with the Raiders, who secured a series sweep.
In the first period, MSOE took an early lead with two goals. The Blugolds responded with Jordan Randall scoring unassisted just before the end of the period. Early in the second period, Kyler Grundy tied the game with a power play goal assisted by Connor Szmul. However, MSOE regained their lead five minutes later and extended it with a short-handed goal towards the end of the second period.
The third period saw MSOE adding two more goals to their tally, bringing their total to six. Will Brenner scored for Eau Claire in the final minutes, marking his first career goal as a Blugold, assisted by Trenten Heyde and Randall.
Ethan Roberts made 18 saves for Eau Claire. Despite out-shooting MSOE 38-24 and finishing 1 for 4 on power plays, they couldn't close the gap.
Looking ahead, Eau Claire will return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play when they host No. 14 UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The teams have each won one game in their current series.
