UW-River Falls defeats Eau Claire in WIAC women's basketball matchup

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team faced a setback in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) game against UW-River Falls, losing 65-57 at Don Page Arena. The Falcons took control in the third quarter, and despite efforts from the Blugolds, they couldn't close the gap in the final period.

UW-River Falls began with a strong performance, outscoring UW-Eau Claire 16-9 in the first quarter and finishing on a 9-2 run. The Blugolds managed to narrow the deficit to three points with under five minutes left in the second quarter, thanks to a 9-0 run led by Kyla Overskei. By halftime, UW-Eau Claire trailed by just two points.

In the third quarter, UW-River Falls extended their lead again, outscoring UW-Eau Claire 16-11 and taking a seven-point advantage into the fourth quarter. A decisive 11-2 run at the start of the final period increased their lead to 16 points, sealing their victory.

Kyla Overskei contributed significantly for UW-Eau Claire with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Jessilyn Ernst added ten points and five rebounds. Reanna Hutchinson reached a milestone by surpassing 1,000 career college points during this game.

The Blugolds' shooting percentages were recorded at 39% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will host UW-Platteville on January 15 at Sonnentag Event Center. The event will feature Youth Night and Team Night activities as part of another WIAC contest.
