The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team experienced a narrow defeat in their first home conference game of the season, falling to UW-River Falls with a score of 67-65 at the Sonnentag Event Center. The match was closely contested, featuring nine lead changes and ten ties.
Neither team managed to secure more than a four-point advantage in the first half, but UW-River Falls went into halftime leading 31-30. The second half saw similar tight play until the Falcons managed a 10-2 run, establishing a ten-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining. Despite efforts from UW-Eau Claire to close the gap, including an 8-0 run in the final minutes, they fell short when their last-second three-point attempt missed.
Carter Huschka led UW-Eau Claire with 23 points and eight rebounds. Andre Renta contributed significantly as well, delivering ten assists alongside his twelve points. Michael Casper added fourteen points, while Carter Lichtsinn scored eleven.
UW-Eau Claire shot at 37% for the game compared to UW-River Falls' 42%. The Blugolds will next face top-ranked UW-Platteville on Wednesday, January 15th.
