The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team faced a setback against Hamline, losing 6-0 in a match held at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds, ranked ninth, could not counter the five-goal surge by the Pipers during the second period, which ended their six-game winning streak.

Hamline, with a record of 9-2-0, scored an initial goal in the first period and expanded their lead significantly in the second. Within three minutes of the second period, they doubled their advantage and then quickly escalated to a 5-0 lead with three goals over six and a half minutes. They concluded their scoring spree with another goal just before the end of the second period.

The Blugolds attempted to recover by out-shooting Hamline 9-1 in the third period but were unable to score against Hamline's defense. Kaia Hollingsworth from Methuen, Massachusetts made five saves for UW-Eau Claire while Alexa Backmann from Rogers, Minnesota contributed four saves. Overall, UW-Eau Claire had more shots on goal than Hamline with a total of 27 to Hamline's 15.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire aims to regain momentum in an upcoming two-game series against Concordia (Minn.) scheduled for January 10 and 11 in Eau Claire. The first game will commence at 2 p.m. on Friday at Hobbs Ice Arena.
