The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team experienced a setback in their winning streak with a 69-55 loss to No. 20 UW-La Crosse on Saturday at Mitchell Hall. This game marked the beginning of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) for both teams.

The Blugolds, who held an 8-4 record going into the game, started strong but struggled in the second half against the Eagles, who improved to 10-2. UW-Eau Claire shot 48% in the first half and was led by Carter Huschka's 23 points before halftime. The team had two separate seven-point leads during this period.

A notable moment came when Huschka hit a three-pointer with just over two minutes left in the first half, putting the Blugolds ahead 34-27. They went into halftime leading 36-33.

However, their shooting cooled off significantly in the second half, dropping to 27%. This allowed UW-La Crosse to gain momentum with a decisive 19-2 run over more than nine minutes, securing a double-digit lead that UW-Eau Claire could not overcome.

Huschka concluded the game with impressive stats: 25 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals. Andre Renta contributed with 11 points and four rebounds. They were the only players from UW-Eau Claire to reach double figures in scoring.

UW-La Crosse also dominated on rebounds with a 45-37 advantage.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds will continue WIAC play against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, January 8th at 7 p.m.
