The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team secured their fourth consecutive victory by defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 73-58. The game took place at the Sonnentag Event Center on Saturday. A strong performance in the third quarter was crucial for the Blugolds to distance themselves from the Warriors.
During the first half, both teams exchanged leads. The Blugolds (4-5) initially gained a significant lead with a 12-0 run, establishing a 13-point advantage. However, Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a 14-3 run, reducing the gap to two points as they entered the second quarter. The teams remained closely matched in the second quarter, and UW-Eau Claire led by one point at halftime with a score of 33-32.
The decisive moment came in the third quarter when UW-Eau Claire outscored their opponents 27-10, including a dominant 20-3 run that extended their lead to 17 points. By the end of this period, they were ahead by 18 points. Although Wisconsin Lutheran narrowed the deficit to nine points in the fourth quarter, they could not close the gap further.
Kyla Overskei from Maple Lake, Minnesota recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 points and ten rebounds, leading her team to victory. Reanna Hutchinson and Lauren Meudt contributed significantly by scoring 14 points each. Lucia Hauge added nine points and five rebounds to support their efforts. The Blugolds achieved their best shooting performance of the season with a field goal percentage of 57%.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will participate in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational on December 29 and 30 in Berea, Ohio. They are scheduled to face No. 21 Carnegie Mellon on December 29 and will compete against either No. 20 Baldwin Wallace or Alma College on December 30.
