UW-Eau Claire falls short against St. Norbert in women's basketball

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team faced a setback with a 68-62 loss to St. Norbert College at the Sonnentag Event Center. The game saw the Green Knights secure victory through a decisive run late in the third quarter, despite a strong effort from the Blugolds to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter.

UW-Eau Claire, currently holding an 0-5 record, started with a slight edge, leading 13-11 after the first quarter. However, they found themselves trailing by one point at halftime with St. Norbert ahead 25-24.

In the third quarter, UW-Eau Claire managed to gain momentum with a 5-0 run, pushing them into a brief lead at 36-32. The Green Knights responded strongly with an 8-0 run and maintained their advantage thereafter. They concluded the third quarter on a significant 14-3 run.

The fourth quarter saw St. Norbert extend their lead to as much as 12 points before UW-Eau Claire attempted to rally back into contention. A notable play by Kyla Overskei initiated a promising 7-0 run for the Blugolds, narrowing their deficit to five points.

Overskei continued her impactful performance by sinking a crucial three-pointer with just 23 seconds left on the clock, bringing UW-Eau Claire within three points at 65-62. Despite this effort, they could not close the gap further as St. Norbert capitalized on free throws to seal their win.

Kyla Overskei concluded her night with an impressive tally of 17 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Reanna Hutchinson contributed significantly with 16 points and three assists while Lauren Meudt added ten points and secured five steals for the team.

The Blugolds' shooting accuracy stood at 38% from the field during this matchup.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will face Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday, December 3rd, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
