The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team achieved a 73-69 victory over Bethel University, halting a three-game losing streak. The game took place on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Blugolds managed to fend off a late comeback attempt by the Royals, improving their season record to 2-3.
Throughout the first half, both teams exchanged runs and leads. The decisive moments came in the final minutes of regulation. With 4:45 left on the clock, UW-Eau Claire led by 11 points. However, Bethel responded with a 13-2 run that tied the game at 69 with just one minute remaining.
Carter Huschka, a senior from Farmington, Minnesota, scored a crucial layup with 38 seconds left to secure the lead for UW-Eau Claire. On defense, the Blugolds forced Bethel into a shot clock violation during their last possession and sealed the win with free throws in the closing seconds.
Andre Renta from Hudson, Wisconsin led all scorers with 22 points and contributed seven rebounds and three steals. Huschka added 21 points and eight rebounds along with three blocks. Cade Hall from Mauston, Wisconsin recorded a double-double with ten points and eleven rebounds. Overall, UW-Eau Claire shot an efficient 50% from the field.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will travel to face St. Olaf College on Tuesday, November 26th at 7 p.m., in Northfield, Minnesota.
