The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team maintained its unbeaten record with a 26-14 victory over UW-Whitewater on Wednesday at Kachel Gymnasium. Despite an early setback, the Blugolds regained their footing as the competition progressed into the heavier weight classes.

Initially, the Warhawks secured wins in the first three matches. However, the Blugolds turned the tide by claiming six of the subsequent seven matches to secure their win. Notably, four Blugolds achieved victories with bonus points. Zach Sato, ranked fifth and hailing from Oswego, Illinois, won by a 21-2 technical fall at 149 pounds. Preston Carlisle from Cannon Falls, Minnesota, secured a 19-0 technical fall at 165 pounds. Niall Schoenfelder from Antioch, Illinois, who is top-ranked in his category, triumphed with an 11-2 major decision at 184 pounds. Ian Pepple from Hastings, Minnesota, delivered the only pin of the night at 197 pounds.

Additionally, Jared Stricker from High Bridge, Wisconsin/Ashland and Sloan Welch from Arpin, Wisconsin/Auburndale both emerged victorious by decision in their respective categories of 174 pounds and 285 pounds.

This win advances the Blugolds to a record of 2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) duals and an overall record of 6-0. This marks their fourth consecutive victory over UW-Whitewater since 2021.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds are set to host the 8-Man Battles and 8-Woman Battles at the McPhee Center on Saturday, November 23rd. The event will commence with its first whistle at 10 a.m.
