The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team was defeated by St. Mary's University (Minn.) with a score of 3-0 on Tuesday at SMU Ice Arena in Winona, Minnesota. Despite being ranked 10th and outshooting the Cardinals, the Blugolds were unable to score against the Cardinals' goaltender, marking their first shutout loss of the season.
St. Mary's took an early lead with two goals in the first period, including one from a power play. They added another goal in the second period for insurance. UW-Eau Claire had a slight edge in shots with a 19-16 advantage but could not capitalize on their opportunities, including two power plays that were successfully defended by St. Mary's.
Tegan Swanson, a freshman from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, made 13 saves for UW-Eau Claire during the game.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds aim to recover as they prepare for an upcoming road game against No. 1 ranked UW-River Falls on Saturday, November 23. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest is scheduled to begin at 2:05 p.m. in River Falls.
