Rachel Mirwald, a junior from Verona, Wisconsin, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week. She is majoring in Biology with a minor in Pre-Professional Health Science.

Mirwald chose UW-Eau Claire for its campus beauty, academic reputation, and the hockey program. "The culture and competitive team environment was something that I knew I wanted to be a part of," she stated.

In addition to athletics, Mirwald is involved with the Pre-Professional Health Club on campus. She emphasizes time management as crucial for balancing academics and sports. "Before or after practice and in between classes I spend my time catching up/getting ahead on schoolwork," she explained.

Her proudest athletic achievement at UW-Eau Claire is reaching the WIAC championship game during her freshman and sophomore years. Her preferred pre-game meal includes pasta or a sub.

Mirwald aspires to become a dentist and dreams of traveling to Switzerland. If given the chance, she would spend a day with Kendall Coyne, one of her favorite female hockey players.

For fellow student-athletes, Mirwald advises taking breaks when needed and enjoying the journey. "Support your teammates through the highs and lows, and have fun!" she encouraged.

Head Women's Hockey Coach Erik Strand praised Mirwald's dedication: "Rachel gives her maximum effort every day!! She adjusted her role on the team transitioning from forward to becoming a defender." He added that she is trusted on the blueline and is always available to help others.

Sam Bandholz from Women's Hockey described Mirwald as dependable both on and off the ice. "Her calm and collected nature bring us a strong sense of stability no matter the circumstance," Bandholz noted.
