The Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association (WHLA) has named Jay Jones, a hospitality professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, as the 2024 Educator of the Year. This award was presented at the Wisconsin Lodging Conference & Trade Show held at Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells on November 4.
Jones was recognized for his significant contributions to hospitality education and his commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the industry. His work at UW-Stout has been influential in shaping future leaders within Wisconsin's lodging industry, aligning with WHLA's standards of excellence.
As a professor, Jones is noted for his leadership and innovative teaching methods, which have had a positive impact on upcoming hospitality professionals. He engages students effectively, fostering an environment conducive to both academic and personal growth.
Beyond teaching, Jones advises the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) student chapter at UW-Stout. Under his guidance, student leaders have developed essential career skills. He also encourages student involvement in WHLA, bridging academic learning with industry experience.

The award was presented by Dr. Lynea LaVoy from Madison College, who received the honor in 2023.
WHLA is a nonprofit trade association representing hotel and lodging properties throughout Wisconsin since 1896. It provides services including marketing, legislative representation, education resources, and legal assistance while partnering federally with the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
