The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team achieved a decisive victory over UW-Oshkosh with a score of 54-0 at the McPhee Center, securing the Chancellor's Cup for the third consecutive year. The Blugolds, ranked fourth nationally, capitalized on six pins to dominate their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener.
All victories by the Blugolds were bonus-point wins, including four consecutive pins towards the end of the dual meet. Notably, Jared Stricker was swift in his performance, concluding his 174-pound match in just 34 seconds.
Among those who won by fall were Izzy Balsiger, Zach Sato, Preston Carlisle, Jared Stricker, Niall Schoenfelder, and Ian Pepple. Additionally, Travis Moelter and Colton Sund secured technical falls at 133 pounds and 157 pounds respectively. Drew Kested and Brody Perry achieved major decision victories at 141 pounds and 285 pounds.
The dual marked the season debut for several Blugolds athletes including All-Americans Sato, Stricker, and Schoenfelder. Sato is currently ranked fifth in Division III at 149 pounds while Stricker and Schoenfelder hold top rankings at 174 and 184 pounds respectively.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will travel to Michigan for the Adrian Duals on Sunday, November 17. They are set to compete against Cleary (NAIA), Adrian (Division III), Seton Hill (Division II), and Ohio Northern (Division III). Both Seton Hill and Ohio Northern have been featured in national preseason rankings for their divisions. The competition begins at 10 a.m. Eastern against Cleary.
