Phillips leads Blugolds to decisive win over UW-Stout

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team achieved a significant victory over UW-Stout with a 7-1 win at Nelson Field. The Blugolds, ranked eighth, improved their standing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) to 2-0-0. Andrew Phillips from Libertyville, Illinois, scored his first career goal and completed his first career hat trick during the match.

The game saw the Blugolds (11-1-3, 2-0) leading by 2-1 with ten minutes remaining in the first half before they dominated by scoring five additional goals. Sean Redmond initiated the scoring for UW-Eau Claire in the 19th minute, followed by Noah Malcook's goal 14 minutes later. Although UW-Stout responded with a goal in the 35th minute, Phillips took control by scoring just before halftime and adding two more goals in quick succession in the second half.

Carson Kowalski added to the lead with a goal in the 60th minute, and Nathan Donovan concluded the scoring at the 69th minute mark. Donovan also set a personal record with three assists. Tate McDermott contributed two assists while Jacob Sampson and Alek Laroi each had one assist. The team set a new program record with 46 shots.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds will continue their WIAC matches against UW-Stevens Point on October 26 at Simpson Field. The upcoming event will feature Senior Night and Parents Night activities.
