UW-Eau Claire volleyball falls to UW-Whitewater ending three-game win streak

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team faced a challenging match against the fourth-ranked UW-Whitewater, resulting in a 3-0 loss. This Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) game took place on Friday night at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena, ending the Blugolds' three-game winning streak.

During the first set, the Blugolds managed to close the gap to 10-9 with a 3-0 run but were unable to maintain momentum as UW-Whitewater secured nine of the next 13 points, winning the set 25-17. In the second set, despite an early deficit of 6-1, UW-Eau Claire rallied with three consecutive kills by Mya Cinnamo from Rosemount, Minnesota. The Blugolds came close at 22-21 before UW-Whitewater claimed victory with a final score of 25-22. A decisive 7-0 run in the third set allowed UW-Whitewater to clinch the match, finishing with a score of 25-11.

Abby Stanwood from Excelsior, Minnesota led UW-Eau Claire with ten kills and achieved a season-high of fifteen digs. Bailey Leeke from Lakeville, Minnesota contributed nine kills while Mya Cinnamo finished with eight. Ella Kiebel from Maple Lake, Minnesota delivered a match-high of twenty-seven assists. The Warhawks demonstrated superior performance with an attacking percentage advantage of .243 compared to .065 for the Blugolds.

This defeat brings UW-Eau Claire's record to eleven wins and five losses overall and one win and two losses in WIAC play. Their road trip continues with an upcoming game against North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on Saturday, October 5th at 1 p.m.
