The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Augsburg University in a nonconference match at home on Saturday. Despite conceding the first goal, the Blugolds scored once in each half and maintained control for most of the game.
Augsburg opened the scoring with a long-range shot that found the top left corner of the net in the 20th minute. This would be their only shot on goal as UW-Eau Claire's defense tightened up for the remainder of the match.
Owen Backus equalized for UWEC in the 36th minute by converting a loose ball in the penalty area. Nathan Donovan and Noah Malcook assisted on this goal.
The decisive moment came in the 84th minute when Carson Kowalski headed in a corner kick to score his third goal of the season, which also marked his third game-winning goal for UWEC. Alvaro Alanis provided the assist.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire (7-1-2) will host Dubuque University on Tuesday, October 1st at Simpson Field with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
