The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team faced Luther College in a nonconference match on Wednesday, ending in a 3-3 draw. The Blugolds initially fell behind but managed to secure a two-goal lead late in the second half before the Norse equalized in the 85th minute.
Owen Backus tied the game at 1-1 with a half volley from inside the box in the 34th minute, marking his second goal of the season. Owen Williams provided the assist. After halftime, Will Heinen gave Eau Claire a lead in the 51st minute with his first goal of the season, assisted by Carter Thiesfeld. Nathan Dononvan extended their lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick in the 71st minute after being fouled inside the penalty area.
Luther College responded with goals in the 79th and 85th minutes to secure a draw.
The Blugolds (4-0-1) will next play at home against the University of Chicago on Saturday, September 20th at Simpson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
