Nearly 300 undergraduate and graduate students, including standout student researcher Ethan Kalin, will be presenting at Research Day on Monday, April 29, at the Memorial Student Center Great Hall and ballrooms. Kalin shared, "Hands-on research opportunities in my undergrad boosted my confidence in my knowledge, skillset and love for science in countless ways."
Anne Hoeltke, the director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at UW-Stout, emphasized the importance of research in providing a broader educational experience for students. She stated, "This is one of the core foundations of being a polytechnic institution and is a high impact practice."
The Spring Showcase at UW-Stout includes various events such as Human Sciences Day, University Choirs and Symphonic Band concerts, Communications Skills Showcase, WEAR Fashion Show, Blue Devil Jazz Orchestra concert, Stout Game Expo, and more. These events celebrate student research, creativity, and innovation.
Research Day at UW-Stout will feature multiple events, including WiSys Quick Pitch competition and presentations by students from various programs. The day will culminate with an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding researchers and mentors in different departments.
Ethan Kalin, a senior in applied science, will present three cross-disciplinary projects at Research Day, showcasing his studies in environmental science, psychology, and biology. Kalin expressed his belief that these projects have prepared him for future endeavors, stating, "These projects have bolstered my preparedness for jobs and graduate-level programs."
Furthermore, the SOAD Senior Show will feature capstone projects by graduating seniors in the School of Art and Design, while the Unspooled Film and Animation Festival will showcase films and animations by regional and international storytellers at UW-Stout's historic Harvey Hall Theatre.
In addition to academic events, UW-Stout will also host entertainment events like the WEAR Fashion Show and Stout Game Expo, offering students opportunities to showcase their talents in fashion design, game development, and visual arts.
