The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team took part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional, held at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, on Friday and Saturday. Twelve student athletes represented UW-Eau Claire during the tournament.
Andrew Mueller secured one of the team's first wins with a first-round victory over Macalester's Beckett Annes, finishing 4-6, 6-4, 10-0. Pablo Rincón also earned a win after receiving a first-round bye, defeating Bethel's Watson Sheard 6-0, 5-7, 10-4.
In doubles competition, Pablo Rincón and Ethan Leeser won their opening match against St. Norbert's Daniels and Garland with an 8-6 score. Sam Murillo and Andrew Mueller picked up another first-round win for the Blugolds by beating Luther's Stoughton and Biro-Moore 8-3. Jack Michaud and Logan Carroll closed out Eau Claire’s victories with a first-round win over Concordia College’s Bitz and Cook.
The Blugolds will resume play in the spring season with nonconference matches. Their next scheduled event is against Macalester College on Thursday, February 5 at the John and Fay Menard Tennis Center at 7 p.m.
