Blugolds defeat Beloit College with strong offense and solid defense

UW-Eau Claire defeated Beloit College 2-0 in a men's soccer match held Sunday at Strong Soccer Field in Beloit, Wisconsin. The Blugolds took control early, registering 27 shots—22 of them on target—while limiting the Buccaneers to just two attempts.

The game's first goal came in the 21st minute when Noah Malcook scored for UW-Eau Claire with assists from Tate McDermott and Krystof Cicha. The Blugolds continued to pressure Beloit's defense throughout the first half but were unable to add another goal before halftime. Kalan McIlveen, goalkeeper for UW-Eau Claire, recorded a key save to maintain the team's lead going into the break.

In the second half, UW-Eau Claire kept up their offensive momentum with several corner kicks and shot attempts. Beloit goalkeeper David Staats made multiple saves to keep his team within reach. However, Carson Kowalski extended the Blugolds' lead in the 75th minute with a goal assisted by Alek Laroi.

McIlveen preserved the shutout by stopping an attempt from Eduardo Lasen late in the match. "Noah Malcook scored one goal and recorded three shots on goal, securing the game-winning goal for UW-Eau Claire." Krystof Cicha contributed one assist and had one shot on target. McIlveen finished with two saves over more than 85 minutes of play.

With this win, UW-Eau Claire's overall record improved to 5-2-1. Beloit dropped to 4-5-2 overall but remains unbeaten in conference play at 1-0-0.

UW-Eau Claire will next host Luther College at Simpson Field on Wednesday, October 1, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
