Blugolds and Hamline women’s soccer teams finish even in competitive match

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Hamline University on Wednesday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds managed to come back in the second half after trailing 2-1 at halftime.

Jayda Swopes opened the scoring for UW-Eau Claire in the sixth minute, assisted by Abby Nordquist. Goalkeeper Ella Swanson made a save in the 22nd minute to preserve the early lead. Hamline responded with two goals before halftime: Addyson Barrett scored in the 25th minute, and Alexis Geary put Hamline ahead in the 38th minute.

Emma Donovan equalized for the Blugolds just after halftime, scoring in the 46th minute with assists from Mikalyn Hidde and Haley Von Rentzell. Throughout the match, UW-Eau Claire recorded 21 shots, nine of which were on target. Hamline had eight shots, four on goal. Both teams finished with six fouls each.

Despite several opportunities created by players such as Sabrina Pickart and Clara Farley, Hamline goalkeeper Isabella Jensen prevented further goals. Swopes scored with her only shot on goal, while Donovan also converted her sole attempt. Pickart led UW-Eau Claire with five shots.

The Blugolds now have a season record of 1-6-3. Hamline holds a record of 3-2-4 overall and is 1-1-0 in conference play.
