The UW-Eau Claire Foundation and the Blugold Real Estate Foundation have been recognized with the Paragon Award by the Eau Claire Area Economic Development Corp. The award, sponsored by Royal Credit Union, honors organizations that contribute to the community through job creation, workforce education, tax base growth, and innovative projects. This year’s presentation took place at the ECA Economic Development Corp.’s annual recognition event.

Curt Krizan, president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation and executive director of the Blugold Real Estate Foundation, accepted the award on behalf of both organizations. “I’m incredibly honored to accept this award on behalf of the entire team,” says Curt Krizan. “From the Confluence Project to The Sonnentag, we’ve received tremendous support from our community and civic partners, business leaders and residents. I personally want to thank everyone for their support in making these projects come to life.”

Krizan noted his appreciation for positive comments in the nomination supporting their selection for this honor. According to details shared in that nomination, both foundations have a history of working with local leaders to create jobs and develop partnerships that benefit people throughout Chippewa Valley.

A major project highlighted was The Sonnentag Center. Opened one year ago, it is currently considered the largest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) V4 gold-certified recreational center operated by a public university in the United States. The 225,900-square-foot facility contributed an estimated $38 million in construction wages and benefits across many firms and workers involved in its development. John and Carolyn Sonnentag played a key role by donating $70 million in land and cash through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

“I personally want to thank everyone for their support in making these projects come to life,” Krizan said.
